3 Lawns You Can Grow From Turf

Spring has begun, and for those looking to start laying new lawn turf, this can be a great time of year to do so. When it comes to the choice of turf or seed, some people may choose turf because it tends to become established quicker than seed, and can give you a beautiful-looking lawn faster. As such, turf can work well for those who are on a tight time frame, and who wish to have the look of a full lawn quicker.

When looking to plant a new lawn from turf rolls, you can either choose to do it yourself or bring in professionals to help.

It’s a good idea to pick a type of turf that is well-suited to your environment and lifestyle. There are many different varieties of turf lawns available, and each come with their pros and cons. In this article, we take a look at some of the different lawns that can be grown from turf, including some of the features of each lawn, to help you on your journey to discover the best type of lawn for you.

This grass is popular in Australia due to its tolerance of drought, heat and full sun. Sir Walter Buffalo is a hardy, low-maintenance grass that can handle a multitude of different conditions. It is only sold in turf-form, and cannot be purchased as a seed. Sir Walter Buffalo has a high tolerance of wear and shade, making it well-suited as a lawn of outdoor entertainers or those who have a garden with a good amount of shade coverage.

TifTuf Bermuda is a drought-tolerant grass that’s good at self-repairing, making it a popular option for those looking for a hardy turf that can handle the Aussie heat. This grass is decent at holding a good colour during the winter months and has a fine leaf. TifTuf Bermuda is a fast-growing lawn, which means it’s good at getting established quickly, but also requires frequent mowing once it is in, so it’s best for those willing to put in the time to maintain their lawn, including mowing it often. TifTuf Bermuda is only available in turf form.

Sir Grange Zoysia

This soft leaf turf has a fine blade, and is a low-maintenance option that can survive on as little as two to three hours of sunlight a day, making it great for gardens that experience frequent shade. This turf variety has low mowing requirements, and is good at surviving in both drought and cold conditions. It can also handle wear, and areas that experience full sun. One fun bit of information about Sir Grange Zoysia is that it was originally made for golf courses, before being adopted as a lawn for homes across the world. Sir Grange Zoysia is only available in turf form.
